In this episode Living Land takes a long, hard look at land reform. To date land redistribution and especially new farm projects have had a disappointingly low success rate. We unveil some of the reasons for this trend as we spend time with a successful new farmer in Mpumalanga. Jeremiah Mathebula from Klipplaatdrif in the Amersfoort district uses about a third of his land for growing crops and the rest is reserved for grazing his herd of 600 cattle. We learn that a successful farmer like Jeremiah runs his farm like a business; carefully looking after his assets, and constantly judging the risks. He also considers the acquired wisdom of more experienced farmers, and we get to meet his wise mentor.
