High- Level Think- tank Meeting on Sustainability for e- Governance in Kenya 10th September 2021

The Strathmore Business School and TalTech University of Estonia will be hosting the first High-Level Think-Tank meeting on Sustainability for e-Governance in Kenya on 10 th September 2021. The Hybrid meeting (face to face and online) will be attended by the Estonian President H.E. Mrs. Kersti Kaljulaid as one of the panellists.

The scope of the High-Level Think-Tank High-Level meeting is based on Estonia’s cooperation with Africa which aims at strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations based on shared values, interests and equal partnership. And one of Estonia’s priorities in its engagement with the African countries is to share their over 30 years of experience in the areas of e-governance and e-services.

It will also focus on the need for global normative principles, regulations, and standards for data governance and the concrete policy and programmatic needs of governments and development partners. And explores the interconnections between global frameworks and national policies, and how ethics, principles, protocols, and guidance can come together to form a safe and accommodating data governance landscape; highlights the operational data governance and management issues for use by country-level stakeholders when planning and developing new data partnerships and programmes of work; calls attention to the need for locally-relevant, open, and inclusive data governance policies and laws that empower government civil servants to experiment with data in responsible ways; and takes stock of major policies, regulations, and frameworks to produce a set of recommendations on data governance for global standard-setting bodies.

During the session, Estonian e-Governance Academy, a non-profit think tank and consultancy organisation which has also has been training some of the Civil Servants in the various Ministries in Kenya will share their expertise and best practices with numerous African countries in the areas of digital transformation, e-governance, e-democracy and cyber security.

3. How to unlock the potential of private sector data for African governments we need to accelerate the creation and use of “data collaboratives”
